STYLING WITH SEAGRASS BELLY BASKETS

Showing no signs of slowing down in popularity, the seagrass ‘Belly Baskets’ are becoming a staple in any stylish UK home. Not that I am at all surprised. Belly Baskets are great for so many reasons. They hide away all manner of clutter. They also can hold plants, be hung on walls, and come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours. What’s not to love?!

The seagrass belly baskets is still our most popular seller and always sells out fast. Of course, I kept a few for my own home – each serving a different purpose in every room. One sits in the office, neatly filled with protective packaging for outgoing deliveries. Two are in the lounge: one cradling a potted plant, the other holding cozy blankets. And I’m planning to hang three in the new nursery to store toys and little essentials.

After a few customers asking me about how to use Belly Baskets, I thought a short little guide of ideas may be of use…

To style your plant in a belly basket, simply place it – draining pot and all – inside a non-draining container first. A cheap plastic pot will do the trick (no one will see it tucked inside the basket). This extra layer helps catch excess water and prevents soggy surprises at the bottom. As for plant choices, you’ve got plenty of beautiful options – cheese plants, palms, or tall cacti work especially well. Basically, go for something leafy and full – it brings the whole look to life!

I like to keep mine at the end of the sofa, filled with my favorite throws and blankets. That way, whenever I’m feeling chilly or settling in for a movie night, everything’s within easy reach – and there’s always a few extras for guests to snuggle under too. They’re just as perfect in bedrooms for tossing blankets on the bed or spreading them out on the floor for playtime.

These soft, affordable baskets are perfect for toy storage. You can paint them to match your nursery decor, hang them on wall hooks (which is exactly what I’m planning), tuck them under benches, or line them up – one for soft toys, another for cars, and another for plastic animals. They’re also easy to personalize for siblings, with painted bottoms in different colors or ribbons tied to each handle. Stay tuned – I’ll be launching a range of seagrass belly baskets specially designed for children’s rooms, complete with paint and pom-poms, in the coming months!

A BATHROOM STORAGE

They are the perfect size for most bathrooms and make such a stylish storage for basics such as rolled up towels, toilet rolls, magazines, and even kids bath toys. Again, you could also use one to house a plant in the bathroom, though only slightly larger bathrooms may have space for this. I like rolled up hammam towels stored in a basket near the bath, both stylish and practical.

Suitable for every room in the house with endless ideas for storage, do you have one at home? How do you use yours?
